SCHOOL HISTORY

SAMS was founded in 1986 by Commander PJK Fitt, a Master Mariner with a significant experience in the maritime training industry. SAMS initially occupied premises in the Maydon Wharf area in the proximity to the legendary “Maydon Wharf Tea Room”, where many freight professional of today attended classes in Cargo Handling, Logistics and Shipping Practice.

In 1996 SAMS expanded to a school environment, borne from a vision of the implementation of the National Qualifications Framework in 1995. This lead to an increase in the number of related qualifications introduced by the now Chairman Mr PSK Fitt. The Chairman joined the company and successfully aligned the courses on offer with the respective regulating institutions, namely:

  • TETA
  • Umalusi
  • DOE

SAMS has a strong management team with Chairman Mr PSK Fitt, ably assisted by Director and Principal Mrs M Fitt. The Principal has twelve years of service with SAMS and runs a tight ship.

Mr AJK Fitt has joined the organisation as General Manager and offers a strong administrative and accounting background to the office.

In 2011, SAMS has celebrated its 25th anniversary and with the years has progressed to now owning premises in the Point Waterfront, where it is able to provide a safe and conveniently situated campus which is conducive to a positive learning environment for the learners. The campus is situated just a stone throw away from the Durban Port entrance.

In March 2012, SAMS opened a branch in the Gauteng region, located in de Korte Street, Braamfontein.
